How to Revise Science

A Masterclass

Is your child overwhelmed by their science revision? Do they do the work but find it hard to translate their knowledge into good marks?

They are not alone.

When you look at the science specification and see the amount you need to know it is daunting, particularly because you need to know it in such detail. The exam questions also seem mean and tricksy and as if it feels like they don't give you enough information to answer them properly. Instead, you have to apply your knowledge and use specific terms and phrases to get the marks.

Not to worry. In the How to Revise Science Masterclass expert science teacher and tutor, Keerti Purmessur shows you everything your child needs to know to ace their science GCSEs.

The How to Revise Science Masterclass is split into five separate masterclasses. Find out what they cover below...

The Foundations of Science

Many students struggle with their science GCSEs because their foundational knowledge, from their Key Stage 3 studies, is not strong enough. This module gives them everything they need to put a strong foundation in place.

The masterclass covers:

  • How to understand, memorise and conquer the science you learned at Key Stage 3 which makes up 20-40% of the GCSE curriculum, but is rarely covered in your GCSE courses
  • Where to find out what you need to know to have a really solid foundation in your science studies
  • What the differences are between the three core science subjects and how you can stop being scared of them and start succeeding in them
  • Which revision techniques are best for biology, physics and chemistry
  • How to revise experiments and memorise equations
  • And, much, much more!

This masterclass is suitable for students from year 7-11.

Experimental Investigations and Techniques

This masterclass focuses on the questions that most students really struggle with, those examining their understanding of experimental investigations and techniques. These questions require students to apply their theoretical understanding of science rather than just saying what they know.

The masterclass covers:

  • Why it's important to get to grips with the experimental techniques questions
  • How to use your specification to make sure you're revising the right experiments
  • How to know the difference between independent, dependent and control variables and how to use this knowledge to get you marks
  • How you tell whether a reacion has taken place
  • How to get the marks for the graphs and calculation questions
  • Useful frameworks for helping you to design investigations in all three sciences to help you get the marks for these questions
  • Worked examples of how to answer example investigation questions for all three sciences
  • And more!

This masterclass is suitable for students who have started their GCSE sciences courses.

How to Revise GCSE Biology:

This masterclass focuses on the knowledge and understanding students need to have to excel in GCSE biology. It also looks at exam technique. It is broken up into several short videos that cover all the course content whichever course or exam board you're doing.

Use this masterclass by watching a short video, then going away and revising that topic using the guidance given in the video, before coming back to the next video another time.

The masterclass covers:

  • The common mistakes students make in GCSE biology and how to avoid them
  • Advice on which revision techniques to use for the different bits of knowledge so that you make the right revision resources to help you learn every piece of content
  • The key words you need for every topic to make sure you get the marks
  • Exam technique for biology so that you know how to translate your knowledge into the grades you deserve

How to Revise GCSE Physics

This masterclass focuses on the knowledge and understanding students need to have to excel in GCSE physics - particularly the concepts and equations, and how to use them effectively in an exam situation. It is broken up into several short videos that cover all the course content whichever course or exam board you're doing.

Use this masterclass by watching the videos to have the content explained to you in a clear and easily understandable way, make notes or other revision materials and then practice using your knowledge doing past paper questions.

The masterclass covers:

  • How to revise each piece of content, and exactly what to memorise, on your physics specification to make your revision as quick and effective as possible
  • All the equations and units you need to use in the exam, and how to use them, to get the marks
  • How to avoid the common mistakes students make that trip them up in GCSE Physics
  • Know where to go to find great resources to help you further with each topic
  • Topics that are only examined on higher level papers - these are clearly marked so you can skip them if you're doing foundation

How to Revise GCSE Chemistry

This masterclass focuses on the knowledge and understanding students need to have to excel in GCSE chemistry.

  • How to revise each piece of content, and what to memorise, on your Chemistry specification to make your revision as quick and effective as possible
  • Detailed explanations of difficult to grasp concepts like moles
  • The standard answers you need to learn for common chemistry exam questions
  • How to avoid the common mistakes students make in Chemistry GCSE exams

'We all thank you enormously for making three difficult subjects great fun while also getting exam results - a brilliant combination!

Mother of twins. One saw their grades go from level 5/6s to level 8 and two level 9s while the other, who is dyslexic, saw their grades go from level 3/4s to level 7s and 8

Pleased to report J got a B in Physics and a C in Biology.

He was so much more confident in Physics he was slightly disappointed it wasn’t an A!  All down to your work with him and giving him that extra boost. And he thought he was likely to fail Biology as he had not fully covered the curriculum. So many thanks for your help!'

Who's behind The Extraordinaries Club?

That would be me!

My name is Lucy Parsons. At school I developed a study system that earned me five As at A level and a place at Cambridge University. I taught geography in secondary schools for four years and now coach students in exam skills. I am also the author of The Ten Step Guide to Acing Every Exam You Ever Take.

Being a member of The Extraordinaries Club has given my daughter a massive boost in confidence and improved her wellbeing hugely. She is really motivated and is feeling good - a very different place to where she started only three months ago.

Working with Lucy I learned to manage my time, stay focused and prioritise. Lucy helped me not only to get the most of academic life, but to improve my leisture time too. I learned how to keep calm and be completely in control of my workload all year round. I will use the techniques she taught me far into the future, and some well beyond the classroom.
